Assignment

Primary Source Activity

Date
February 10, 2007
Description
An important part of the HANDS ON HISTORY program is to assist teachers in accessing and utilizing primary materials.

In order to achieve this goal, we are asking that you document use of a primary source.

To accommodate different subjects, grade levels, and curricular schedules, you may select these primary materials from either:
  1. the Resource CD,
  2. Ohio Memory,
  3. OhioPix or
  4. the Ohio Historical Society Archives-Library/State Archives of Ohio.
The source must be primary and you must explain on the worksheet why they are primary sources. You will have to fill out a worksheet and answer the short essay questions on a separate sheet of paper, typed, double-spaced, with standard font and margins.

Primary source worksheets must be completed on time and be of high quality with minimum errors. Answers to the short essays should be complete, thoughtful, and well-written. Assessment mechanisms should be clear and effective. Points will be deducted for tardiness, incompleteness, failure to use a documented primary source, failure to include satisfactory assessment mechanisms, or poorly written or unclear answers to short essay questions.

If you are having difficulty finding primary sources, please get in touch with James as soon as possible. Good places to start include: Ohio Memory, OhioPix and your resource CDs.
