Migration and Immigration

This theme will address the development of the United States' internal infrastructure and how it contributed to successive waves of immigration and progressive stages of economic maturity. Teachers will examine: biographical material such as diaries, journals and manuscript collections from individuals and families that immigrated to and emigrated within the United States and Ohio; ledgers of small merchants and manufacturers from various regions of the United States; and maps, directories and census records to uncover migratory patterns and urban development.
